The Switch to HTML5 (Browser)
AidaFebruary 7th 2026
Greetings, Penguins!
Rumour has it New Club Penguin is about to experience a grand reset? Let’s talk about it and address everything! At the dawn of the freshly released HTML5 Beta, we are waving goodbye to Flash while preparing for a new start… and the day you've all been anticipating is now a fact. Flash is scheduled to be discontinued on
But what does this mean?

FAQ - All you need to know!

What is Flash?
Flash is the software platform which was used to get New Club Penguin delivered right to you - it was the game as you had known it for the last (almost) 6 years! While being a vibrant experience with great memories, it came at the price of severe lag and bugs. With time, it also started limiting our designers and developers’ ability to bring ideas to life, which led to stagnancy regarding content.
What is HTML5?
HTML5 is how New Club Penguin will be allowed to run directly and easily, straight on the web. Did we mention you can play it both on mobile and desktop? To put it simply, you will no longer need to download a client to play comfortably - to run it, all you need is a browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari. [This comes with a lot of benefits, some of which will be discussed below!]
What about my account?
This new chapter comes with a new beginning - you won’t be able to transfer your old accounts to HTML5. But there is a “but”: all of our former players will be able to bring over 25% of their coins, as well as 5 items of choice from their inventory! This will happen with the help of a manager panel, which will be available after launch via a link. You log in, choose your stuff, and start waddling with your most beloved possessions! And yes, this means you are free to pick a username different from the one you had on Flash!
Why do we need the change?
Apart from the simple browser access, HTML5 provides a smooth gameplay with no lag whatsoever. The change is also amazing news for our creative team! Such a blank canvas is inspiring and opens space for many ideas to come. The HTML5 tools are way more handy and modern in comparison to Flash, which will allow us to constantly furnish the island with custom content, without facing the previous limits.
What to expect?
Speaking of custom content, players will now occasionally be able to take part in choosing what parties to occur by voting on our blog! Of course, this means you can look forward to even more new items and decorated rooms! All of this will be accompanied by the community’s beloved staff meetups. The player base will also be enjoying a less harsh chat filter that won’t get in the way of casual talk.
So here’s to sliding into a new era, beaks first! We can’t wait to have you on this much needed adventure beyond the walls of what we’ve had, while still honouring our timeless New Club Penguin style! Stay tuned for further info on the public release of HTML5! See you on the flipper side!
Waddle On!
